Story of the Year nominee: Moped Army
Technology has transformed our society in numerous ways. As communication becomes quicker, transportation becomes easier, and many of the functions of everyday life can be conducted with the click of a mouse or the push of a button, the way we perceive ourselves and our environment have slowly become more defined by the gadgets we use. Is it possible to reach a point one day where technology disconnects us completely from our fellow man? What would such a society look like? What would it value most? And what kind of people would benefit most from it? Paul Sizer envisions such a future society, but within it there also exists a small group of individuals who shape technology to define their lives, not the other way around. Their tools are humble, their methods sometimes crude, but through their passion for an antiquated, forgotten method of transportation, they remember what it is to live and love as human beings⦠a lesson one young woman, torn between a life of privilege and her self-respect, slowly learns as she grows beyond her limited worldview.
