ALL RIGHT, REGGIE AND KEEF!!!!
Did Nat Turner ever even finish?
Regrettably, no. Issues 3 and 4 were solicited but never came out. Hopefully we'll see them before year's end...
That's what I thought. I mean I was rooting for Nat Turner to win, but I honestly felt that it would be wrong considering the series never actually finished.
It's not uncommon for an award to be given to a comic series that is still 'in progress'. The Eisner's routinely bestow awards to works before the full story is completed, as do the Harvey's and the Ignatz. I *think* the Eagle award also does the same, but don't hold me to that. I know the Eisner's have a guide that a certain number of installments of a series must have been published within a certain calendar year in order to qualify for the shortlist. I assume the other awards have similar guides.
One could say that all of those superhero books which sadly comprise the bulk of sales, fan attention and media coverage are at their core series that never end about characters that, fundamentally, never change. All they do is reset, recycle and update-for-current-hipness, keeping the trademark alive.
